What We Do

The BLACKbox Scientific Collective evaluates scientific reasoning at the edge of biology, chemistry, translational science, and artificial intelligence.

We help teams, researchers, investors, and AI developers examine what is claimed, what is proven, what is missing, and what could fail.

Our work focuses on biological AI evaluation, scientific reasoning assessment, model red teaming, translational science due diligence, evidence-quality review, and independent validation of AI-assisted scientific claims.

Who We Are

The BLACKbox Scientific Collective is founded by Dr. Valerie Toodle, a Hopkins Med-trained Black scientist with experience across neurobiology, translational science, patent examination, forensic science, education, and AI model evaluation.

BLACKbox brings that cross-disciplinary judgment to scientific AI: evaluating how models reason through biological and chemical problems, where their conclusions break down, and whether their outputs are supported by evidence.

We are built for careful questions: What is actually proven? What is only implied? Where does the reasoning fail? What would break under pressure?

Why BLACKbox?

Scientific failure is often hidden in the reasoning.

A model may sound confident. A mechanism may sound plausible. A translational claim may sound promising. But the real question is whether the evidence holds.

BLACKbox looks inside the claim, the model, the method, and the logic connecting them.

We evaluate scientific work with a focus on mechanism, experimental design, evidence quality, reasoning integrity, and failure points that may not be obvious at the surface.

Founded on Juneteenth 2026

The BLACKbox Scientific Collective was founded on Juneteenth to honor freedom, possibility, and new beginnings.

For us, Juneteenth is more than a date on the calendar. It is a reminder that freedom includes access to knowledge, participation in discovery, and the authority to question systems that were not built for everyone.

BLACKbox exists to expand access to rigorous scientific thinking and independent evaluation. Good science becomes stronger when more voices are invited to ask difficult questions, challenge assumptions, and examine the evidence.
